Not able to call US numbers in Mobile Voip

HI. I’m having a trouble calling US numbers with my US flynumber. Everytime I try to call with US code (+1), it will show up Problem (796) error.

It happens only when I call US & Canada numbers (+1) but when I test other regions like UK (+44) and Australia (+61), the outgoing calls perfectly fine.

So, I want to know if there’s way if I can call US numbers. dialing 001-xxxx brings same issue and 1xxxx will simply call in my residential country.

Hi @happysoda,

Do not use the + symbol to make the call.

Use the E.164 format without any prefixes (no 011, 00, or + symbol):

  • For US/Canada numbers: Country code (1) + area code + number. Example: 19176282411
  • For UK numbers: Country code (44) + number. Example: 442036031157

Can you elaborate on this?

I see. I dialed the number again without the country code and seems now I can see the phone ringing. Didn’t know it was this simple. I dialed 1123456789 instead +1123456789 or 001123456789.

Can you elaborate on this?

Apparently, it turns out I was dialing wrong number and when it happens, it plays “The phone number you dialed is incorrect.” automated messages in my country.

My only concern is why the phone is ringing without getting any response. For example, when I try MCI Call Connection Test (+1 800 444 4444), it only rings the phone and the automated machine does not pick up my call. Same happens when I call other toll-free numbers and customer services such as Apple and Amazon.

Please dial without the + …

from our FAQ

What dialing format should I use for outbound calls?

Use the E.164 format without any prefixes (no 011, 00, or + symbol):

  • For US/Canada numbers: Country code (1) + area code + number Example: 19176282411
  • For UK numbers: Country code (44) + number Example: 442036031157

I just tested calling the above number with the phone system app and it connected.

Really? Then I guess the problem could be the MobileVoip app or CheapVoipCom because the phone would simply ring indefinitely and does not pick the call at all. This happens when I dial 18004444444 and followed the E.164.

I’ll update later on after testing with real US numbers instead of toll-call or automated messages.

Oh, I see. I was under the impression you were using our phone system. In that case, you would want to check with MobileVoip and/or CheapVoIP, as they seem to be the ones handling your outgoing calls.

Let us know if you run into anything.

Update: I got a response from VoipCheap support, and here’s what they said:

Due to regulations in the USA/Canada, domestic traffic cannot be routed through international gateways.

Attempting to send such traffic constitutes misuse of our services and may result in suspension or loss of access.

This means that calls originating from a U.S. or Canadian caller ID cannot be terminated to U.S. or Canadian phone numbers using our services, though international calls may still work.

While we have no control over these regulations, we are required to comply with them.

In short, I’m not allowed to make outgoing calls to U.S. phone numbers using VoipCheap and MobileVoip.

While this explains why US code numbers are not working, it becomes clear that MobileVoip/CheapVoip is not the right solution for me.

All I’m looking for is a way to buy a US number from outside the country that allows me to make and receive phone calls to the US at an affordable price.

Thanks for the feedback here.

With us, you’ll be able to make outgoing calls from anywhere using any device/software, so you’re in the clear as far as that’s concerned.

I see. I’ll just looking for other services that lets me make calls with Flynumber number in the time being. In the worst case scenario, I might try your Phone System solution.

Btw, I added $2.95 to my prepaid account, so I’m wondering why it’s still in pending status.

This was taken care of.
