UK porting out / in pre sales enquiry

Hi,

I’m looking at using Flynumber for a UK virtual mobile (07) number and I’d like to confirm a couple of technical details before signing up.

Could you clarify:

  1. Whether your UK virtual mobile 07 numbers can be ported in from another UK provider and later ported out again if I decide to move. If so, what are the applicable fees and any minimum term?

  2. Typical timescales for port-in and port-out of a UK mobile number, and whether there is normally any downtime.

  3. Whether you have any known limitations for OTP / 2FA SMS from UK banks, card issuers, HMRC / gov.uk, WhatsApp, Telegram, Apple, Google, etc. Do you block or filter any short codes or verification-type messages on your UK ranges?

  4. Whether your UK numbers support call forwarding to external UK landline/VoIP numbers, or whether all inbound calls must be answered in the app / browser.

I’m specifically looking for a no-contract, pay-as-you-go or pay-monthly solution with the freedom to port out later, and I rely heavily on SMS 2FA, so I want to make sure your UK service is suitable.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @ojnwreivn,

Thanks for posting and considering us.

UK mobile number porting is available only from the following operators: EE, Three, Lifecycle (Three), Stour Marine, and Gamma. You’ll need a PAC code from your current provider. Yes, you can port out if need be (one time $3 port out fee).

More info here on porting here.

Usually a day to about a week depending on the carriers involved. No downtime as we can have forwarding/settings set up before the number is fully ported in—the moment it’s ported in, that forwarding/setting will work.

While FlyNumber supports incoming SMS for UK mobile numbers, we cannot guarantee delivery of all verification messages, particularly from UK banks, card issuers, or government services. The ability to receive 2FA codes depends on the sending service provider—some work reliably, while others may not deliver to virtual numbers.

A more reliable alternative: Many services offer “Verify by Phone Call” instead of SMS. This works very well with FlyNumber—you answer the call, hear the verification code, and enter it. I’d strongly recommend using this method when available for critical services.

You can find more details about SMS compatibility here

Yes, UK numbers support call forwarding to external UK landlines, VoIP numbers, or mobile numbers. You’re not limited to answering in the app or browser.

Given your heavy reliance on SMS 2FA for banking, I’d recommend testing with a one-month subscription first to verify compatibility with your specific services before committing long-term. You can order a new UK mobile 44-7 if that works for you.

We operate on flexible monthly billing with no long-term contracts.
