What audio codecs do you accept?

What audio codecs does FlyNumber accept?

We accept the following codecs

GSM
ULAW
ALAW
G.726
ADPCM
SLIN
LPC10
G.729

*If using a FlyNumber SIP account we suggest g711

Do you know if support will be added for iLBC (or SILK)? I’m no codec guru, but I understand that these are very good for 3G connections, which is what I use most, and smartphone clients provide support for G.729 through expensive add-ons while the popular clients I know of do support SILK and/or iLBC out of the box. (e.g. Acrobits supports and recommends iLBC and CSipSimple really includes everything but G.729)

In the meantime, do you have recommendations for which of the listed codecs to use to get a solid experience on mobile 3G networks?

We suggest using g711 for now.

No eta on iLBC (or SILK) but Ill be sure to send the info to the right people here.

Thanks

Nearly 4 years after, do you still suggest to stick on the g711?

As following your advises I’ve purchased Groundwire, it supports the g729 through an expensive add-on, indeed this codec is much more efficient than the g711 (3 to 10 times lower bandwidth) but it would require that the FlyNumber SIP account properly uses the g729 as well.

Thanks.

Hi
