I have (or had) a USA Google Voice number from Austin, Texas.
It starts with +1 512-814-xxxx and I used it for about 10 years, until a few days ago, when Google blocked my access to the Google Voice service without any reason.
I need the number only to receive SMS messages or, in rare cases, a phone call — entirely over the internet/VoIP. I do not need access to the regular mobile phone network.
Can I port this number to FlyNumber?
I understand that I will still need to obtain the porting codes from Google first.
I also have a JustVoip account. Can I attach the number to it? In that case, would the cost be only USD 2.95/month, or are there additional fees that are not clearly shown on the FlyNumber website?

We can certainly try…
As we understand, you need to “Unlock” the number for porting out of Google Voice.
When you unlock your Google Voice number, it costs $3 USD. But if your number was originally ported in from another carrier, there’s no charge.
- On your computer, open Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings
Settings.
- Go to the “Account” section.
- Under the Google Voice number you wish to port out, click Unlock.
- Complete the payment with your Google Account.
- Ask your carrier to port your number to their service.
- If successful, at the bottom left, it displays “Number unlocked.”

The main point for me is to keep the number, as it has been my personal WhatsApp number for 10 years, and changing it would cause a huge problem for me.
Unfortunately, I can no longer log in to Google Voice to start the porting process. After signing in, I get the error message “Unable to access a Google product.” I can still access other Google products under the same account without any issues, but not Google Voice.
I will therefore need to contact Google Voice support (if there is a functioning support channel). Could you please advise me on the exact information I should request from them?
Is it the account number and the porting PIN?
Should I also provide them with any information regarding the gaining carrier?
If they refuse to provide this information, is filing a complaint with the FCC the only way to compel them to release it, or are there other possible options?

Thanks for the update. That’s definitely a challenging situation - losing access to your Google Voice account after 10 years is frustrating.
We’re checking with our porting department to see if there’s any possibility of attempting a port without account access, though typically Google Voice requires the number to be unlocked from their end before any port can proceed. Without the ability to unlock the number and provide the necessary credentials (your 10-digit number and voicemail PIN), it’s extremely difficult to move forward.
Yes, you have options as it pertains to the FCC:
You may want to file a complaint with the FCC if Google has blocked your access without explanation. The FCC takes number portability rights seriously, and carriers (including VoIP providers like Google Voice) are generally required to allow customers to port their numbers. You can file a complaint at:
The FCC typically gives providers 30 days to respond to complaints. Given that you’ve had this number for 10 years and rely on it for important communications, documenting that Google blocked access without reason could strengthen your case. The FCC has jurisdiction over number portability issues under the Communications Act, and they’ve historically been supportive of consumers’ rights to keep their phone numbers.
Additionally, if Google blocked your account without notice or valid reason, this might violate FCC regulations regarding service discontinuation, which typically requires advance notice to customers.
We’ll let you know what our porting department says about any alternative options, but pursuing the FCC complaint route simultaneously might be your best bet for either regaining access to your account or forcing Google to release the number.
