Australian Number Purchase, Porting, and SIP Setup

Hi,

I’m interested in purchasing an Australian local number and would like to know the following:

  1. What documents are required to buy an Australian number?
  2. How long does it take to activate and make the number usable after ordering?

Additionally, I currently have a Skype Australian number and would like to keep it. Could you please provide the requirements to port a Skype number to Flynumber? How long will the porting process take, and is there any downtime during this process? Also, do I need to purchase a new number before requesting the port?

As I am new to VoIP and SIP, I have a few more questions:

  1. Do you provide a SIP account if I don’t purchase a phone system?
  2. How can I connect the number to a softphone, such as Zoiper or Linphone?
  3. How about the 3CX Windows app? Can I connect the number to 3CX with the SIP account, or do I need something else?
  4. If I use a softphone, will I still be able to make and receive calls to/from landlines and mobiles?
  5. What are the rates for such calls, and who will charge these rates?

Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to your response.

Hi @Odyssey,

Hope all is well. Thank you for your interest in purchasing an Australian local number. I’m happy to answer all your questions.

Regarding Australian number registration:

For Personal Registration:

  • Your full name
  • Contact phone number
  • Copy of your passport or ID

Or

For Business Registration:

  • Your full name
  • Contact phone number
  • Company name
  • Copy of the company incorporation certificate

Additionally, we’ll need:

  • Full address (this can be from anywhere in the world)
  • Copy of a utility bill or statement or invoice that is less than six months old

Once all documents are provided, activation typically takes 1-2 business days max.

For porting your Skype Australian number:

  1. We’ll need a completed porting form (which we’ll provide)
  2. A copy of your most recent Skype bill/invoice
  3. The porting process typically takes 7-14 business days for Australian numbers
  4. You do not need to purchase a new number before requesting a port
  5. There is minimal downtime during the porting process as we coordinate with Skype

Regarding your VoIP and SIP questions:

  1. Yes, you can get a SIP account for incoming calls without purchasing our phone system. You can use services like SIP2SIP as explained here: Use SIP2SIP to receive unlimited incoming calls | FlyNumber

  2. You can connect your number to softphones like Zoiper or Linphone using the SIP credentials we provide.

  3. Yes, you can connect to 3CX with the SIP account credentials.

  4. Yes, with a softphone you can make and receive calls to/from landlines and mobiles.

  5. For a complete solution with both incoming and outgoing calls, I’d recommend our phone system. We can offer it to you for $9.95/month instead of the usual $14.95. You can check the outgoing call rates here: Per min rates

More information on our phone system is available here: Overview | The FlyNumber Docs

Thanks and standing by if you have any other questions.
